I sail in Southern California at Long Beach and Cabrillo Beach, better known as Hurricane Gulch. My wife and I also make regular trips to a lake in the Central Coast where it blows 20- 24 miles an hour almost every day during the summer. As a friend of mine says, wind powered sports enthusiasts are a global tribe. I have close friends at both locations who will help you in way they can to enjoy yourself and make every day a great day!
To that end, I was given a Slingshot Dialer 130ltr board and a SlingShot foil in the fall of 2023 to start my journey learning to wind foil. I've been windsurfing for quite a long time in California, Costa Rica, most of the Caribbean Islands and Bora Bora,. With no lessons, I was able to fly for short distances. I had a big breach where I learned not to do that again. But that was about it for last year.
It is now spring of 2024 and for various reasons, I haven't been trying to foil again very much this year. I'm a windsurfer at heart, so when the wind is up, I'm sailing fast on a windsurfer. I've decided to foil at the lake on flat water and a defined area where I can't really get into too much trouble. My goal is to be be able to foil year round. The weather in Southern California is usually warm enough and windy enough to sail and/or foil all winter.
